Listen up Men

They way I see it, men that desire to live a Godly life on this earth actually have it pretty rough. It’s never easy to walk against the tide or go against the grain. The cares of this world can really weigh a brother down if he lets them. Married men in particular face an abundance of expectations and pressures. Simply put, a family man has responsibilities. 1Tim 5:8 But if anyone does not provide for his own, and especially for those of his own household, he has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.

Yikes! Just as a recap:

I must love my wife as Christ loved the church.

I must be concerned about pleasing her.

I must provide for my household.

I must be the spiritual head/leader of my house.

I must bring my kids up in the training and admonishment of the Lord.

On top of all that, there’s work, taxes, college funds, retirement planning, and oh yeah: fulfilling God’s plan for my life.

All of this can wear on a brother causing stress, pressure, and just being loaded down with care. The cares of this world can seem overwhelming at times. We know that stress-free and care-free is the way to be, but How do we get there? How do we get to where Paul was when he said, “Although I am pressed from every side, I feel no pressure in my heart” – and actually mean it?

1 Peter 5:6-7 Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all of your care on Him, for He cares for you. It sounds so simple just cast all of your care on Him. But how? Jesus told us that we should take His burden which was easy and light. You cast your care the same way you bail out of a squat: dump the weight right off your back. The truth is, you never should have unracked it to begin with. Is it light? Is it easy? No? Then it was never yours to bear – don’t squat it!

The Answer: Verse 6 + 7 are not separate; there’s only a comma. The first thing we have to do to be care-free is humble ourselves. The only reason that we don’t cast ALL of our care upon Him is because we think we can handle some of it. That is actually pride. A care that we won’t let go – won’t cast, is a care that Jesus can’t carry for us. We were never designed to carry care or worry. Jesus said over and over “Do not worry” because worry brings fear and fear involves torment. We have to let God be God in our lives. We don’t have to figure everything out with our human brains. If we do, we will be limited to only natural results. Do you want to be mere men, or do you want supernatural results?

Humble yourself and admit that you can’t carry around your cares. We must decrease so that He can increase in our lives. Don’t be a control freak and give God the reigns. If you’re worn out, there’s a good chance you”ve been carrying around cares that you were never designed, or empowered to carry. (to be continued)
